I’ve been very excited about getting a Christmas tree this year and have been pestering The Boyfriend about when we could buy one.  We did some market research last weekend but I wasn’t allowed to actually get one.  I was therefore very excited on Thursday when I got a text of an empty tree in the living room.  Due to the high ceilings we’ve been able to get a lovely tall one and by the time I got home the lights were on and twinkling.

We’d decided on a red and gold theme but were conscious that we didn’t want to get carried away and spend a fortune.  I’d rescued some cinnamon bundles from a work event so we used them and then The Boyfriend’s mum had treated us to some wooden hearts.

We then filled in the gaps with some plain baubles that I’d lovingly spent hours threading and topped it up with some pretty ones that we’d inherited from The Boyfriend’s mum.  I absolutely love it…

I’d also dried out some oranges as I didn’t think we’d have enough to fill it but in the end we had loads and I’m not sure The Boyfriend was a huge fan of my DIY attempt.

I’d been hoping for a wreath but was told it would draw too much attention to our tatty front door but I’ve been promised one for next year.  I’ll try again with the oranges and put them on there!

About katerenovates

Hello and welcome to Kate Renovates - a blog about my attempts at renovation. The Husband and I have now been living in our house for four years and changes are being made slowly. It's an unloved Victorian townhouse that had been converted into two flats. Armed with a little bit of know-how and bags of enthusiasm, we have turned it back into one house and are transforming it into our home. Many of the original features remain but the flats had been rented out and so none of the rooms were in great shape. Luckily, it has a fully functioning kitchen and we recently finished the new bathroom and so things are getting more and more comfortable all the time. We're learning as we go and sharing our ups (and downs) on here as we try (fingers crossed) to bring the house back to life. I'd love to hear your thoughts on my blog or any tips you may have on our house project, so to contact me, please email
